First tomatoes and the last days of summer

Love, love love, fresh tomatoes,  not as much as fresh cucumbers, tomatoes grow well for me, cucumbers don't.
The above image was taken many years ago, my very own tomato burglar snipping a few of the last tomatoes of the season.
despite this years heat and humidity, or perhaps because of it, my tomatoes are late to ripen by more than a week.  This year i also chose to plant my little plants farther apart than usual.  Much of growing tomatoes is really beyond my control but
thought,  i would try something different, who knows.  This is definitely not the worst year I have ever had, that year from 24 plants i got 3, yes only 3 ripe tomatoes.  It rained most days that year, kinda like it did for June and July this year.  Again who knows.

First tomatoes do mark the the last days of summer , though there will be many pleasant days to come for  awhile.  Not Fall yet, but close, it appears to remind us with the sunset being earlier now, night time temps are lower, rain less frequent , grass grows slower....there are a few small green apples on the trees.  Yes, even the sky seems different.
The sunlight seems clear, there is less humidity.  Something is different.
As change is coming.
