Welcome to my October. I love October, plenty of variety in just about everything, weather, holidays, things to do....not to mention Halloween.
We plan to mention Halloween alot , though hopefully not too much. But seriously, can one mention Halloween too often in the month of October??

Coffee lovers rejoice! Coffee Day is right around the corner. From espresso to cappuccino, there are several ways to enjoy your coffee; thus, a holiday specially dedicated to this brew is a no-brainer. But, when is Coffee Day, you may ask? This year, International Coffee Day falls on October 1st, 2021, so make sure that you mark your calendar!
What Day Is International Coffee Day?
International Coffee Day occurs on October 1st of every year. There’s also National Coffee Day, which falls on September 29th, and is celebrated in the United States and Canada.
What Is the History of International Coffee Day?
The history of International Coffee Day can be traced back to Ethiopia, when coffee was first discovered in 700 AD by a man named Kaldi. In the first version of this origin story, Kaldi noticed his goats acting weird, looking as if they were dancing. Upon closer examination, Kaldi found out that they were eating red beans. So, he took the beans to a monk, who wished for something to help him stay awake. In a second version of the story, the monk slaps the bean out of Kaldi’s hand into a fire, allowing the potent aroma of coffee to fill the room.
As history progressed, coffee became widely available throughout the world and was known by various different names, including “Mocha” and “wine of Araby.” During the 15th century, coffee houses hosting this delicious brew began to also appear, and by the 16th century, they were all over Europe.
Due to the global popularity of Coffee, the International Coffee Organization declared October 1st as International Coffee Day in 2014.
Why Is International Coffee Day Celebrated?
International Coffee Day is observed for the following reasons:
Celebrating the discovery of coffee and the joy it brings.
Honoring coffee shop owners, baristas, roasters, and farmers.
Raising awareness about the working and living conditions of coffee growers.
One of the most important objectives of International Coffee Day is to recognize the workers behind the production of our favorite beans. After all, their livelihood depends on it
How Should I Celebrate International Coffee Day?
With International Coffee Day right around the corner, you may be wondering how to celebrate. Well, there are several ways that you can partake in the International Coffee Day festivities. Here are a few ideas:
Make your own coffee at home: Instead of purchasing a cup of coffee, why not make some yourself? You can experiment with brewing methods using different tools, such as a french press, Moka pot, or Chemex.
Expand your coffee knowledge: There’s no better way to honor the creation of coffee than by learning more about the subject. Read a few books, watch a couple of documentaries, or talk to coffee experts.
Shop small: Give back to the coffee community by visiting a local coffee shop in your neighborhood. When you visit, consider taking an arrangement of cookies and candy
to thank the baristas for their hard work. Bonus points if you spark a conversation to learn more about the establishment.
The best thing about holidays is that you can celebrate any way you’d like—whether that’s an International Coffee Day date by yourself, with your friends, or surrounded by family. So, choose a couple of things to do from the list above and make this the best Coffee Day ever.
