It's here, the first day of December!!!
it was rule in our house that before this date there was no circling items in the Sears catalog, letters to Santa, requests for Christmas cookies, putting up of lights etc. And then it all took off at once, making and addressing cards, making small gifts, making cookies and seeing which sibling could do the best job of decorating their assigned space be it the piano top, staircase, back-porch, front walkway, you get the idea if you are thinking totally tinseled chaos.
Advent calendars, stockings hung on a mantel made from a HUGE cardboard box,a nativity scene with every imaginable animal and a pink haired troll doll dressed as a shepherd, the beautifully handmade lantern, my Dad made from a peanutbutter jar{ glass jars in those days}. that jar/lantern held the candle lit each evening beginning on Christmas Day. The purpose of that lantern was to help guide the WiseMen to the ChristChild on Epiphany.
We also had a neato old train that didn't run anymore but sat on a track held together with Scotch tape, looked pretty darn good there under the tree.
It was 37-38 days of paper, glitter, flour brown sugar, strange foods, merriment, opening boxes, and of course presents.
