The Full moon of March, Cold End Moon, Lenten Moon, Sugaring Moon. Awakening Moon. Windy moon, Worm Moon, Puddle Moon, Ice Out Moon, Budding Moon, It also has names like, Snowblind Moon, Big Hunger Moon, Death Moon. Though Old man Winters is broken, it is a long time until harvest, and the ancestors had to travel farther and farther from the safety of their framsted to find wood for the fire.
The Vernal Equinox will take place on the 20th. The sun is up before I am these days, and sunset is almost 2 hours later than it was at Christmastime. Getting outside for any reason sounds so good. I miss the smell of the outdoors, the suns warmth tempts me out o wander, yes, there will be bad weather, one of the worst storm I ever saw happened in mid March, the snow was heaped up into mountains along the driveway, but those mountains melted quickly. I talked to my parents the night before the big snow, they had gone out to buy grass seed, thinking that there would be very few people out, they were surprised to see "everybody and their brother" out shopping like maniacs.
The first awakenings are evident, the buds are swelling and the snowdrops are in bloom, other flowers like daffodils have pushed up through the ground. Birds are signing in the morning, and the robins have returned, geese flying in formation heading back north, they can often be heard even when they can't be seen.
Winters cold dark mornings have made me lazy, and burrowing under the quilt for a few extra minutes of sleep has become habit, now the rising sun wakes me before the alarm goes off. I think i will miss that about winter.
