Finding spring....as I ramble along

Winters when I was a little one, were sort of like this past one, but I was a kid and fascinated with them.  My dad helped me build igloos,  and most years giant sized snowmen.

I even got to ride to school in the dump truck that belonged to the people he worked for!! Winters were more wintery back in the 1950s, It was the way we expected it to be.  No, I am not calling them the good old days, just the old days,  just my old days.

Looking forward to spring started in late February, that is my recollection because the days were getting longer, and you could feel the sun on you face.

It became a family tradition for us to go for a rather long ride on a sunny day,  to see and sometimes help with, tapping maple trees. The rising sap was a sure sign of mellowing weather, and that was good.  At one time my great grand parents made and bottled maple syrup, but that was before my time.  Though I still remember the way to that little town, I don't know if the people we helped were relatives or not, just thought I should add that.

This winter was a trying one, staying indoors is nice for awhile, but gets claustrophobic FAST!  Trying to keep the woodstove well fired, trying to keep the wood bin full, trying to keep one's sense of humor, trying to keep out of the cookies. Trying to find trying to that box of old photo's, which I never did find.  For that reason, the photos in this ramble are from the interwebs, they look remarkably like the ones I remember.

This morning I saw a spider, OK I know, but to me they are the harbinger of spring.
