March forth and whip up a batch of Grandma Mable's chocolate syrup

Today is Command Day, which doesn't sound so great to me, don't like commands. So I request you

March forth....may-be not to the grocery store, and enjoy some chocolate syrup you made yourself.

You can do this it takes a bit of time, but it isn't difficult or expensive. and of course you can adapt this recipe with additional flavors, more or less sugar, whatever pleases your pallet.

1 cup of cocoa powder

1 1/2 cups of white sugar

dash of salt

1 1/2 cups of water

1 teaspoon of vanilla

combine ingredients in a heavy pan and boil for 2 min, stirring it alot, may be constantly....allow to cool before using....very important to do that because boiling sugar water is, I am told , hotter than boiling water.

I usually add a spoon of instant coffee to mine.  And  have  made this with coconut sugar, molasses sugar, and plain old brown sugar, not to our liking, but still good.  Don't add marshmallows...ickystickey mess.

Cayenne pepper, about 1/8 teaspoon, mint is a good addition also.  Tried cherry liqueur, also good.   I like a dash of curry, but no one else did.  no one here liked cinnamon, but then no one here likes cinnamon in anything.

Chili powder was suggested, not at all sure about that one.

So very long ago I worked for a man from NYC...Brooklyn actually, who decided to treat all of his employees to his favorite   cold beverage on his retirement day.  He made " New York chocolate egg cremes" for all of us.

Mr. Lance's NYC egg creams

Pour 3 tablespoons of chocolate syrup and 1/4  cup of ice cold milk  half-and-half, or even real creme into a 16-ounce glass.

Beat vigorously with a whisk or fork, while slowly adding  cold club soda.

Don't fill the glass to the top, adding a drinking straw is recommended.

Just though I should add this recipe in his honor as he was a very good boss.  But I'll bet you figured that one out on your own.
