Sorry no title

being silly, having fun, using your imagination, making people laugh, expressing yourself, not being self conscious, feeling confident enough to take chances, being a kid, being a kid at any age, inventing your own fun, doing your  own thing, making something from nothing, making do with what you have, making the most of a situation, creating, going your own way, following your own council, communicating, laughing for the sake of laughing, being yourself, loving yourself

Rather, it was a candid photo that made the back page "Miscellany" section of Life magazine back in 1955. But if you look closely, you can read the advertising on the paper cups, and can easily tell that they are Coca Cola cups.

a bit late

I'm a little late in greeting autumn this year.
There is not an autumna' decoration to be found in or on my house, YET!

The memories of waxing  colored leaves and looking for chestnuts, acorn, beechnuts, milkweed pods and teasels to bring to school, our pockets full of anything and everything we could possibly find that we could show around, school and autumn were both adventures.  We were not looking ahead as far as winter, in fact most were only looking as far ahead as what we would find on the walk home.

    Pumpkin Spice Bacon

Bacon, it should have it's own food category, I mean other than seriously unhealthy.  Of course nothing that is even remotely tasty can be considered healthy, there are even folks who say downright nasty stuff about apples, pineapples and bananas,  trying to give fruit a bad name.   The world is a stranger place than usual when they are around, and not nearly so fun, or so tasty.   I don't buy much bacon, not sure why, perhaps it because I feel guilty disposing of all that succulent grease.  I should be able to find a use for it.  I have made Martha Stewart's Bacon cookies.   I have used it to fry green tomatoes,  zucchini, and even eggs.   I know people who fry fish in bacon grease.

Oh yeah, this is supposed to about the glories of pumpkin spiced foods, I keep getting distracted by the bacon.

Now one thing that is widely agreed upon is that homemade food is better for you.
So, I am providing you with a recipe for homemade pumpkin spiced bacon. And a caution, that hot sugar maims, so be careful.

    Pumpkin Spice Bacon

Pumpkin Spice BaconIt seems like every fall everything suddenly becomes pumpkin spice flavored. Starbucks starts selling their wildly popular Pumpkin Spice Latte, bakeries sell pumpkin spice muffins and Planters even just sent me some pumpkin spice flavored almonds in the mail. You know what I never see in fall though? Pumpkin spice bacon! Obviously this problem needed to be remedied, so armed with a pumpkin spice recipe I found online plus a couple additions I made to help turn it into more of a glaze that could be brushed onto some strips of bacon I set out to make my own!

For the pumpkin spice glaze I combined the following ingredients:
    1 cup powdered sugar
    2 tablespoons milk
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon ginger
    1/4 teaspoon allspice
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
After mixing everything up I covered a baking sheet with a piece of aluminum foil, laid out a half pound of bacon strips and then covered each one of them in my pumpkin spice glaze using a pastry brush. I then put my bacon in the oven at 400° for seven minutes before taking it out, flipping it and brushing the other side in pumpkin spice glaze as well. After that I put it back in the oven for an additional seven minutes. Based on the way my kitchen smelled while I was cooking the bacon I could tell how delicious it was going to taste even before I pulled it out of the oven. It was like some form of sick torture or something, but at the same time I loved every second of it! Ok… this is getting weird….
Anyway, the bacon turned out almost like a candied bacon, but trust me, it tasted WAY better than regular ol’ candied bacon. My problem with candied bacon is that most of the time it just turns out chewy. My pumpkin spice bacon on the other hand was a little bit chewy from the sugar and spices, yet still managed to maintain that crisp bacon crunch that I love. All in all I’d say that my pumpkin spice bacon was quite a hit!
